Massachusetts-Based Garelick Farms to Close Lynn Plant

A Massachusetts-based milk and dairy company that has been around for more than 90 years announced Tuesday they plan to close their Lynn plant.

The Lynn Daily Item reported that Garelick Farms officials gathered more than 100 workers at one town hall-style meeting in the morning to tell them of the plant closure. A second meeting was held for second shift workers in the afternoon.

The paper reported that Aubrey Leake, Garelick’s plant manager, confirmed the news to the city’s development bank. Leake said several other Garelick plants across the United States were also set to close.

Garelick is owned by Dean Foods which is based in Dallas, Texas. The company was started in 1931 in Franklin, Massachusetts, by brothers Israel and Max Garelick.

It's unclear when the exact closure date for the plant will be.
