Gigi's Italian Gourmet Market and Deli in Danvers Has Closed

by Marc Hurwitz

A North Shore market with a connection to a top-rated restaurant in the Caribbean has shut down after a very brief time in business.

A message sent to us from @CappyinBoston indicates that Gigi's Italian Gourmet Market and Deli in Danvers is no longer in operation, with a Patch article also saying the Route 1 shop has shuttered while mentioning that its Facebook page states it "will not be reopening in the near future." The Patch says that Michael Fortino, who was the chef at ZoZo's on St. John in the Virgin Islands, helped open Gigi's after the restaurant (which was located at the Caneel Bay Resort on the island) was destroyed by the hurricanes that hit the Caribbean last September. (An earlier Salem News post also says that John Ferrigno, who owned ZoZo's, was behind Gigi's.)

Gigi's first opened in March, offering such items as salads, sandwiches, prepared meals, meats and cheeses, and freshly-made pastas.

The address for this now-closed market in Danvers was: Gigi's Italian Gourmet Market and Deli, 110 Newbury Street (Route 1), Danvers, MA, 01923.
