Gold medal hockey player and Massachusetts native Meghan Duggan hosted a clinic at an ice rink in Quincy on Sunday.
Duggan, a captain on the U.S. women's Olympic hockey team that brought home the gold medal from PyeongChang, South Korea, spent the day at Big Y Sunday.
While there, she met fans, autographed cereal boxes and showed off her medal as kids practiced their hockey skills.
The three-time Olympic medalist grew up playing hockey in Danvers and says support from the community helped her get to where she is now.
"Massachusetts has been such a support system for me," Duggan said. "I'm very proud to be from Mass., certainly very proud to be from Danvers, Mass. because of support of everyone like you, the fans, the young kids that come out to these events and have a dream to play."
Duggan already had two silver medals before winning gold in her third trip to the Olympics in a nail-biter game against US rival, Canada, that ended with a dramatic shootout.
It was a winning moment that meant the world to Duggan, and it had a ripple effect for all those in Danvers who are extremely proud of their hometown hero.
