Gusty Winds for Many, Showers for Some

For most of us in New England, we begin Tuesday chilly and damp.

A warm front entered New England from the west and will take the rest of the day to make it northeast to central Maine. Along the boundary, we have a few showers, some downpours, and spotty fog and drizzle.

As the front goes by, our wind becomes gusty from the southwest and the temperature jumps to the 70s to near 80 degrees in southern and western New England, with wind gusting 25 to 30 mph.

To the north of the front, in much of northern New Hampshire and most of Maine, we remain on the cool side most of the day with continued showers and downpours, possibly even some thunder. Temperatures will be holding in the 50s to low 60s.

Tuesday night stays rather mild and muggy with a low temperature in the 60s to low 70s, and a dewpoint in the 60s. That may promote more fog and drizzle overnight.

Wednesday, the same front starts to drift back toward the south with a return of colder air from north to south. It will also carry chances for showers in a thunderstorm. Temperatures will fall into the 50s in much of northern and eastern New England, and fall from the 70s into the 60s in the western and central part of the region, but may stay near 80 degrees in Connecticut.

Waves of low pressure likely continue to ripple along this semi-stationary boundary for the next few days, with showers and rain likely, especially south on Wednesday. It will then be likely for most of us on Thursday into Friday.

Talk about pushing the season a little quickly, we may actually have a couple of inches of snow in the highlands of Northern Maine Thursday night and Friday.

All this midweek chill and wetness should mean good news for the weekend. It will likely clear out with temperatures on the seasonable side, near 60 degrees, and perhaps peak foliage for most of the mountainous areas here in the northeast.
