Haverhill, Mass. Fire Chief Found Dead

A fire department in Haverhill, Massachusetts, is mourning its chief after he was found dead on Sunday.

Police confirm that 56-year-old Haverhill Fire Chief Richard Borden was found unresponsive on Rosemary Ave. around 3:30 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Fire Chief richard Borden was a dedicated public servant who worked tirelessly for the city of Haverhill and will be missed by the people of Haverhill," said Mayor James Fiorentini in a statement. "Haverhill lost a friend today."

"I have had the honor of working closely with Chief Borden over the last four years," said Haverhill Public Safety Commissioner Alan DeNaro. "He was a dedicated fire professional who was very proud of the Haverhill Fire Department and all it has accomplished under his tenure."

Fiorentini added that Monday, flags would be flown at half mast in Borden's memory.

Borden died of natural causes, according to officials.
