Weather Forecast: More Sun, More Heat

Tuesday night: Mostly clear and mild. Upper 60s to near 70. Wednesday: More sun, more heat. Bit more humid. Low 80s coast, upper 80s elsewhere. Fourth of July: Sunny, hot and humid. Upper 80s to near 90 away from the coast.

    (Published Tuesday, July 2, 2019)

The heat continues to build this week. We remain mostly dry through Friday. We did have some severe thunderstorms across Maine, but any leftover storms will continue to decay as the sun sets and we lose the daytime heating (instability).

Clouds continue to decrease across southern New England tonight. Areas of fog will settle in across Maine becoming dense where the rain fell. Overnight lows will be warm in the 60s for most.

Highs for Wednesday and the Fourth of July will be in the mid to upper 80s along the coast, and near 90 or in the low 90s inland.

The humidity begins to creep up on Wednesday too. Plenty of sunshine is in the forecast, other than a pop up shower Wednesday inland.

There is not much wind during the nights of the 3rd or the 4th, so any fireworks displays could become rather cloudy from the settling smoke.

We will see more towns near or at 90 degrees for Friday as the rain chance holds off. Unfortunately, the showers and scattered storms return for Friday night across western New England, then all of New England for Saturday afternoon into Sunday along a cold front.

Some of the storms could be strong with hail and wind gusts along with lightning and heavy rain. Stay tuned to the First Alert weather team for more updates.

Once the front moves through Sunday afternoon, we could see some clearing with highs in the upper 70s and less humidity. The uncertain part is how quickly the system moves out. There is a chance for spotty storms Sunday afternoon too. Drier air and cooler temperatures in the 70s will be in our forecast for the start to next week.
