Heat May Cause More MBTA Delays This Summer

Thousands of people were left stranded this past winter because of the record-setting snow in Boston

The MBTA is warning commuters who ride the 'T' that this summer could bring more delays, this time because of the heat, reports the Boston Globe.

Thousands of people were left stranded this past winter because of the record-setting snow in Boston.

The public backlash eventually led to the resignation of former MBTA General Beverly Scott. Governor Charlie Baker also called for the resignation of the members of the MBTA board.

Keolis is warning customers may face even more delays because of the heat and a lack of prepared coaches. Crews will be inspecting air conditioning systems and continuing to make repairs to other coaches.

Several necn viewers offered their thoughts on the news on Facebook:

"So what's new?" said Al Williamson.

"And they want to bring the Olympics to Boston?" asked Mona Davis. "How about fix the transit system instead."

"You would think the MBTA would get their crap together," added Athena Pappas. "I feel bad for people who need to get around."

"Good old MBTA," said Mark Rar. "Setting the bars as low as possible so they can approach it."

Keolis issued a statement Wednesday saying that on-time performance of the MBTA commuter rail "continues to trend in a positive direction." On Tuesday, for example, 93 percetn of trains were on time and not one train was more than 14 minutes late.

"We are ready for summer," said Leslie Aun, a Keolis spokesperson. "All the a/c units have been checked and repaired as needed and so far we've only had a very small number of reports of issues with a/c. Of our 3,000 coaches in operation so far this month, we've had exactly two reports of a/c problems. And yes, we've already begun planning for next winter."
