History Bodes Well for Red Sox' 2-0 World Series Lead

In beating the Dodgers 4-2 Wednesday night at Fenway Park to take a 2-0 lead in the World Series, the Boston Red Sox suddenly have some fortuitous history on their side.

In the entire history of the World Series, 43 of the 54 teams to take a 2-0 lead have gone on to win it all. That includes 16 of the last 17 winners, and each of the last 10. And it gets better... each of the last 15 teams that took a 2-0 lead at home went on to win the Fall Classic.

All-time, the Red Sox are 3-1 when taking a 2-0 World Series lead, winning in 1916, 2004 and 2007. Boston's lone World Series loss after taking a 2-0 lead was in 1986, to the New York Mets in what is often considered one of the best World Series installments in baseball history.
