Homeless Man Gets Jail Time for Fight Over Car

Mark Souther has pleaded guilty to assault and battery, according to a report

A homeless man is going to jail for nine months after pleading guilty to beating up a friend during an argument over a vintage car.

The Newburyport Daily News reports that 33-year-old Mark Souther pleaded guilty to assault and battery on Tuesday.

Police say they found the victim last August on the kitchen floor of his Salisbury, Massachusetts, home holding a bloody towel to his face.

He told police he didn't like Souther's remarks about his car so he told Souther to leave. He says Souther then punched him in the face multiple times.

Souther's attorney said the victim provoked the fight and told Souther he did not want him to go to jail. Souther was also ordered to pay the victim's medical bills.
