Police: Hyannis Man Arrested After Brandishing Knife at Ex

A Hyannis man was arrested Friday for allegedly brandishing a knife when a woman he shares a child with would not let him in her home the previous night.

Matthew Monroe, 27, arrived at the woman's residence in Cotuit to confront her after he was told he could not visit the child they share from a previous relationship, according to a press release from the Barnstable police department.

When he was denied entry to the house, Monroe allegedly brandished a knife. In response, a 25-year-old male resident of the home reportedly defended himself with a baseball bat, according to the police statement. Monroe fled the scene before police arrived, after which a warrant was put out for his arrest.

Monroe was arrested the following night, Friday, on High School Road in Hyannis. He was held at the Barnstable police station on $5,000 cash bail pending arraignment in Barnstable District Court on Tuesday. It was not clear whether Monroe has legal representation.
