Icy Roads Possible Following Day of Downpours in New England

Intensifying low pressure tracks very close to Cape Cod during the midday Tuesday when the rain is at its heaviest.

Well north and west, we have snow piling up in the mountains to the order of 6-inches or more. Meanwhile, lower elevations of northern New England will see some snow but accumulation should be a bit less with temperatures just above freezing.

In southern New England, the temperature rises close to 50 degrees. A warm front may lift north of Cape Cod getting the area to 60 degrees, with a chance of wind gust past 50 mph from the south.

The rain and snow shut off for most of New England during the afternoon: first and Connecticut, then in Massachusetts, Vermont, and New Hampshire.

Rain along the coast and snow inland in Maine continues through sunset. Rainfall totals of 1-to-2-inches will result in localized flash flooding.

The temperature cools quickly at night we may end up with icy roads in parts of the region to start off Wednesday.

Very cold high pressure drops the temperature into the teens north and 20s south early in the morning. Plenty of sunshine is in store with high temperatures only in the 30s in southern New England and 20s in northern New England.

In the state of Maine, the temperature may be record cold on Thursday. Otherwise, we start up in the 10s and 20s, rising to 30s with sunshine fading once again as another storm approaches from the south.

It’s looking more likely that a nor’easter is going to impact us Friday. With colder air in place than rain or snow, it may make it all the way to the I-95 corridor.

Rain and snow could be heavy with gale force wind much of Friday. Slow clearing is possible Saturday with temperatures perhaps warming to near 45 degrees in southern New England.

Another cold front comes through Saturday afternoon with a few rain or snow showers. Then, much colder weather Sunday and Monday with a return to sunshine.

Not much change in the pattern next week, but there is a chance of rain and snow a couple more times before Thanksgiving.
