Invasive Pests Threaten New England Trees

A variety of invasive bugs continue to threaten trees all across New England.

In Connecticut, for example, experts say every ash tree is at risk because of the Emerald Ash Borer.

Hundreds of the trees have already been lost in New Haven alone.

In recent years the Asian Longhorned Beetle also destroyed many trees in Central Massachusetts.

David Anderson, an arborist with Hartney Greymont, says most of these invasive species come to New England on ships. They can then spread rapidly by jumping on to cars moving between states.
