The Ipswich, Massachusetts Fire Chief was arraigned in Lowell District Court on Friday in connection with an alleged assault that occurred on September 14, 2017.
Gregory Gagnon, 41, of Dracut, was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, witness intimidation and two counts of assault and battery on a household or family member in connection with the alleged assault.
He was released on personal recognizance with conditions and ordered to stay away from the victim in this case.
After the arraignment, investigators learned of an additional incident involving domestic violence with the same victim that occurred last year.
Gagnon was arrested Saturday morning in connection with the ongoing investigation being conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney’s and Dracut Police into allegations of assault on a female victim who is known to him.
Gagnon was charged Saturday with strangulation in connection with that incident. He is being held without bail pending his arraignment on Monday in Lowell District Court.
The Ipswich Town Manager released the following statement: “Chief Gagnon has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of the investigation. We can’t comment on the ongoing investigation.”
