Kyrie Irving to Be Featured on Wheaties Box

Boston Celtics superstar Kyrie Irving will be appearing on Wheaties boxes in advance of the upcoming film "Uncle Drew."

The boxes will depict Irving as Uncle Drew, the titular character of the upcoming feature film, as well as himself. The movie is based on the digital series originally delivered by Pepsi, which stars Irving as 75-year-old streetball legend 'Uncle Drew' who is known for his remarkable basketball skillset despite his advanced age.

"For the first time in decades, Wheaties will feature two great athletes on its box at the same time," said Kathy Dixon, marketing communications manager for Wheaties. "Kyrie is a proven winner based on all of his accomplishments on and off the court, and the story of Uncle Drew reminds us that no matter your age, you can still have fun and be successful at the things you love to do."

The limited-edition Wheaties boxes will be available nationwide later this month. The movie is slated for a June 29 release and features numerous retired basketball legends, including Shaquille O'Neal, Chris Webber, Reggie Miller, Nate Robinson and Lisa Leslie. O'Neal and Robinson each played for the Celtics earlier this decade.

"It's truly incredible to have Uncle Drew featured on the legendary Wheaties Box," said Paula Kupfer, Lionsgate senior vice president of global partnerships and promotions. "We're thrilled to be a part of a campaign that celebrates Kyrie Irving as an amazing athlete and Uncle Drew as a beloved big screen character."

Lil Rel Howery and Nick Kroll will also star in the movie.

Irving, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, is currently recovering from surgery on his left knee and has missed Boston's postseason run. He's expected to make a full recovery and be ready to go in time for the 2018-19 NBA season.
