Flames and smoke could be seen coming from an MBTA Commuter Rail train Thursday evening in Canton, Massachusetts.
The train on the Providence Line was stopped at Canton Junction. The commuter rail referred to a mechanical issue and fire department activity.
The train was running 25-35 minutes behind schedule, the commuter rail said.
The issue is believed to have been caused by a fault in the engine turbocharger, which the commuter rail said "caused smoke and a small amount of flame to be emitted from the engine exhaust system.
"The fire went out on its own when the crew shut down the engine," Keolis, the company that operates the commuter rail, said in a statement.
No injuries were reported.
