120 Whoopie Pies Stolen From Maine Fairgrounds

Authorities say thieves broke into a booth at the Skowhegan State Fair over the weekend and stole about 120 whoopie pies, cookies and plastic silverware

Police in Maine are searching for the culprits who reportedly broke into a booth at the Skowhegan State Fair over the weekend and stole about 120 whoopie pies and emptied a refrigerator full of cookies.

Authorities told the Portland Press Herald the discovery was made early Sunday morning at the Skowhegan Lions Club booth.

John Youney, a director of the club, told the paper that his group held a fundraiser for 1,200 people Thursday and left the booth spotless. He said the group went back to check inventory the next day.

When they went back again on Sunday, 10 boxes of whoopies pies were gone as well as a refrigerator full of cookies. Packages of plastic silverware were also thrown across the floor, according to the Press Herald.

Youney said the theft is estimated at about $1,000.

Police would not comment on the incident except to say they are investigating.
