The four largest food banks in Massachusetts are meeting on Monday to discuss how to respond to the ongoing partial federal government shutdown.
The food banks, in addition to two non-profit organizations, will brainstorm a response if the shutdown drains resources and supplies for low-income residents and federal workers who have turned to food banks, according to the Boston Globe.
"It's really hard and if they really shut down the government how we suppose to survive," Massachusetts resident Carmen Gonzalez said.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced on Jan. 8 that its Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as SNAP, is fully funded for January and February.
Monday's meeting will include the Greater Boston Food Bank, the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts, Worcester County Food Bank and the Merrimack Valley Food Bank. Project Bread and the Massachusetts Law Reform Institute will also be present during the meeting.
