A water main break in Newton Wednesday caused authorities to shut down Needham Street and knocked out water service for homes and businesses in the area.
Water could be seen drenching the street near Newton Nexus Wednesday afternoon, with fire trucks on the scene.
Newton police asked drivers to use "alternate routes and expect major delays in the area" for what it deemed on Twitter a water main break.
Repair crews are expected to work overnight into Thursday to restore water service.
