Man Accused in Attempted Daycare Kidnapping Due in Court

Polcie say Sandro Corbelli kicked in a daycare door and attempted to abduct a child

A man accused of an attempted kidnapping at a daycare center in Somerville, Massachusetts, is set to be arraigned Wednesday.

Police responded to 17 Dartmouth St. Tuesday morning for a report that a man kicked in the front door and was attempting to take a child. Upon arrival, the door to the daycare was locked, prompting police to make a forced entry.

The suspect, later identified as Sandro Corbelli of Somerville, was found holding a one-year-old girl. Police say Corbelli had the child in a bear hug and that she was visibly in distress. The child was not related to the suspect, police said.

Officers were able to rescue the child in a minute. Police then tackled Corbelli to the ground as he resisted arrest.

During the struggle, police say Corbelli managed to grab the officer's gun. One officer was injured as police attempted to subdue the suspect.

Corbelli is charged with kidnapping, assault and battery, assault and battery on a police officer, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest, and breaking and entering. He was transported to a local hospital for evaluation after the incident.
