Veteran Accused of Threatening Coworkers With Mine

A maintenance worker who had a verbal argument with a coworker brought in an inactive claymore mine and repeatedly pressed the trigger device, according to Quincy, Massachusetts, police.

Police say Bruce Beck, 45, of Plainville, works for Adams Historical Sites, had the argument on Tuesday and brought a green duffle bag with the mine inside on Wednesday.

He allegedly pointed it towards other employees and took out a trigger device, pressing it multiple times.

Police say the mine was an inert training device for the U.S. Army. Beck was a 20-year veteran and police say he likely stole the mine during his military career.

Beck was arrested and charged with possession of a hoax device and assault by means of a dangerous weapon.

A search of his car and home yielded a second inert claymore mine.

In court on Thursday, Beck was ordered to be held without bail and will hav a dangerousness hearing on Oct. 9.
