The Springfield, Massachusetts, man charged in a fatal 2013 shooting outside a city bar has pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter.
The Republican reports that Chase Johnson was sentenced Monday in Hampden Superior Court to four to five years in prison for unlawful possession of a firearm followed by 19 to 20 years for manslaughter.
Authorities say the 31-year-old Johnson got into an argument with 24-year-old Eddiz Walter on the patio of the now-closed Duck's Place bar in July 2013. Johnson pulled a gun and fired six times.
He was apprehended two months later in Ohio and charged with first-degree murder.
Johnson's attorney says plea negotiations reflected differing legal problems and evidentiary issues. He says the two men had had an earlier dispute and there was "bad blood" between them.
