Man Dies in Saturday Morning Crash in Worcester

A Rutland, Massachusetts man died Saturday morning after his car crashed into a building in Worcester, police said.

Police responded just after 9 a.m. to a call about a vehicle that had crashed into a house located at 578 Chandler St. The house is registered to a church, according to city records.

The 25-year-old driver was treated on the scene by Worcester EMS and members of the Worcester Fire Department before being transported to a local hospital for emergency surgery. He died at the hospital soon after.

The incident is being investigated by the Worcester Police Department's Reconstruction Unit due to the serious nature of the crash. The initial investigation indicates that the victim lost control of the vehicle on Chandler Street, crossed over the double yellow line and jumped the street curb, eventually crashing into the house. The driver did remain conscious after the crash, as he exited the vehicle before collapsing.

Investigators will conduct a full mechanical inspection to determine if any mechanical deficiencies were at play. The investigation remains active and the name of the victim has not yet been released.
