Man Struck, Killed by Commuter Rail Train in Belmont

A man died Monday morning after he was hit by a Commuter Rail train in Belmont, Massachusetts, according to police.

Transit police said officers received a report of a person who was possibly hit by a Commuter Rail train near Brighton Street Crossing. An investigation determined a man, estimated to be 21 years old, was trespassing on the railroad when he was hit by inbound Fitchburg Line train.

The man was pronounced dead as a result of the injuries he sustained in the collision. 

Authorities said the Fitchburg Line Train 400 from Wachusett was stopped near Porter Square in Cambridge due to police activity. The train was running up to 35 minutes behind schedule, Belmont police said.

As a result of the investigation, Brighton Street was closed between Cross and Hittinger Streets.
