Man Riding in Car Killed in Gang Shooting: Police

No arrests have been made in the Springfield, Mass. shooting

Police in Springfield, Massachusetts, say a man riding in a car has been killed in what they call a gang-related shooting.

Two officers were patrolling in the city's Forest park neighborhood at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday when they heard multiple gunshots. They found evidence of a shooting at the scene but no victim.

About 10 minutes later, staff at Mercy Medical Center said a gunshot victim was brought to the emergency room in critical condition in a private vehicle.

The victim, identified Monday as 25-year-old Anthony Serrano, was pronounced dead about two hours later.

Police say the shooting is not random.

The slaying was the city's 12th homicide of the year.

There have been no arrests.
