Koh Concedes 3rd District Democratic House Race to Trahan

Dan Koh has conceded the 3rd District Democratic congressional primary to Lori Trahan.

"Out of 89,000 votes, it looks like we fell short by about 0.1%," he said in an emailed statement. "There’s no use in getting upset about the close margin – we can’t afford to. It’s time for us to unite behind Lori Trahan to be sure this seat stays Democratic."

Speaking to supporters Monday afternoon, Trahan said that Koh called to congratulate her and her campaign as well as to offer his support.

"His campaign stood for many of the values that are important to me and we will continue to fight for those values together," Trahan said. "I had the priveledge of campaigning alongside Dan and a field of diverse, high caliber candidates who share the same urgency, the same purpose that compelled me to get into this race."

Trahan had added slightly to her lead over Koh after weekend recounts in several communities, including the Merrimack Valley cities of Lawrence and Lowell. The final results of the recount are expected to be released later Monday.

Trahan and Koh were the top two finishers on Sept. 4 among 10 candidates vying for the Democratic nomination for the seat held by Democratic U.S. Rep. Niki Tsongas, who did not seek re-election.

Trahan led Koh by 122 votes prior to the recount. According to Secretary of State William Galvin's office, the margin increased to 142 votes over the weekend.
