A Massachusetts police chief who was once an FBI agent has been placed on leave, but no one is saying why.
The Telegram & Gazette reports that Athol Town Manager Shaun Suhoski told selectmen Tuesday that Chief Russell Kleber is on leave. Former Chief Timothy Anderson has been named acting chief until further notice.
Suhoski refused to say if Kleber was on paid or unpaid administrative or medical leave, saying he can't comment on personnel matters.
Kleber was a supervisory special agent with the FBI in Quantico, Virginia, before taking the Athol post two years ago. He also worked in the Providence, Rhode Island, and Boston FBI offices. He served on the Charlton and Auburn police departments in the 1980s and 1990s.
