2-Year-Old Found Floating in Backyard Pool Dies

A New Hampshire toddler found floating in a backyard swimming pool after he was reported missing Monday morning has died, authorities confirm.

Authorities say an unresponsive 2-year-old Epping boy was taken to Exeter Hospital around 9 a.m. after police came to the home on Hedding Road to help search for the child.

"Anytime you deal with a child its always the hardest. Those calls are the worst," said Epping Police Chief Michael Wallace.

Police say they pulled the boy from the water and started CPR on the child, trying their best to save him.

The boys parents told police that they thought he had wondered off into the woods and did not think to check the pool.

"They responded heroically trying to revive the little boy unfortunately it didnt work out in our favor," Wallace said of the officers actions.

Wallace says the little boy was home with his mom, his younger brother, and an adult man who isn't his father. He says the gate to the pool was closed, but they believe the child slipped through a gap between that gate and the fence.

As it stands right now, there is nothing suspicious to report regarding the mishap.

This comes a day after a 5-year-old girl drowned when she fell into her family's pool in Methuen, Massachusetts.

Police in Methuen say that tragedy should serve as a reminder to pool owners to make sure it's covered and drained when not in use.
