The man found guilty last week of killing a man and his girlfriend in Peabody, Massachusetts, in 2017, will spend the rest of his life in prison.
Wes Doughty, 42, was sentenced Monday at a Salem court to two consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole for murdering the couple, Jennifer O'Connor, 40, and Mark Greenlaw, 37, the Essex County District Attorney's Office said.
"The facts of this case were extremely disturbing and is evidence of the destruction that drug abuse and trafficking can wreak of people's lives," District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett said in a statement.
Doughty was found guilty Friday in Salem Superior Court on two counts of first-degree murder, armed carjacking, kidnapping, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and attempted arson.
Prosecutors had alleged Doughty killed the victims because he thought one victim was going to cut into his drug business.
O'Connor and Greenlaw were found dead inside a Farm Avenue home Feb. 18, 2017. The murders were so gruesome that investigators initially did not know how many victims there were.
The jury also found that Doughty raped O'Connor, tried to set the house on fire and carjacked a 64-year-old Middleton man several days after the murders.
He was arrested panhandling outside a McDonald’s in Spartanburg, South Carolina, several days after the crime.
Michael Hebb, who admitted to helping cover up the killing, pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact. He is currently serving his sentence.
