NFL rumors: Greg Schiano "likely" to join Patriots defensive staff?

Greg Schiano is looking for work, and his next employment could come with the New England Patriots.

NFL Media's Ian Rapoport tweeted Wednesday an update on Schiano's next NFL opportunity, and it sounds like there's a good chance the 52-year-old coach comes to Foxboro.

Patriots linebackers coach Brian Flores reportedly is expected to become the next head coach of the Miami Dolphins, so his departure would leave a vacant spot to fill on Bill Belichick's defensive staff.

Schiano spent the last three years as Ohio State's defensive coordinator, but he left that role after the 2018 season to pursue coaching jobs in the NFL.

His most notable NFL experience comes from his two seasons as head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2012 and 2013. He was fired after the 2013 campaign, finishing with an 11-21 record in two seasons. He also was the head coach of Rutgers from 2001 through 2011. At Rutgers he coached current Patriots defensive players Devin and Jason McCourty, as well as Duron Harmon.
