School officials are apologizing after a 15-year-old New Hampshire student was told to remove her Donald Trump T-shirt.
Freshman Ciretta MacKenzie was taken out of class last week by Epping High School Principal Brian Ernest. She was told to remove or cover up her "Make America Great Again" shirt.
"I want each and every one of you to know, from the bottom of my heart, I am truly sorry," Epping Superintendent Valerie McKenney said at a meeting Thursday.
"People have no respect for each other anymore, and that needs to be brought back," the girl's mom, Rose McKenzie, said.
Ernest's decision sparked a firestorm of criticism.
"Teachers have no business putting their political views in the schools," said NH Rep. Al Baldasaro.
The school says "appropriate action" has been taken against Ernest, but wouldn't specify what that was.

"This incident caused a tsunami that impacted the school community, and the community, and even the state, and the country, who would have thought,” said McKenney.
While school officials say that all the attention has made students nervous in the week following the incident, they're pleased to address the matter thoughtfully and move forward with diversity training.
McKenney says kids will be allowed to wear "Make America Great Again" shirts in the future.
