Beat the Heat: Best New England Beaches to Visit

Check out some beaches you should visit this summer

Massachusetts:

Singing Beach - Manchester-by-the-Sea
Located right on the North Shore, Singing Beach is perfect for a quick getaway from the city. There are restaurants and shops right in town, but you have to get there early because parking is limited for non-residents.

Nauset Light Beach - Eastham
This beach is perfect for bicyclists and walkers, as well as swimmers. The sandy beach has a steep glacial scarp behind it and a path to the Three Sisters Lighthouse. 

Coast Guard Beach - Eastham
Perfect for visitors who just want a nice beach to lay on and beautiful ocean to swim in. Beach-goers can also occasionally spot piping plovers and seals.

Crane Beach - Ipswich
This beach has great trails and is home to the North Shore's largest pitch pine forest. Of course, there is also a sandy beach for those who would rather lay out and soak up the sun. 

Rhode Island:

Narragansett Town Beach - Narragansett
This beach is perfect for surfers because it has a designated surfing area, as well as a long sandy beach, and places to grab food. Many travelers ride around on bikes or mopeds, and beach-goers can walk right from the beach to the ferry landing. 

Block Island - New Shoreham
Block Island features 17 miles of beaches, complete with lighthouses and gorgeous views.

New Hampshire:

Rye Beach - Rye
A quiet-beach with lots of activities including whale watching, golfing, and sight-seeing.

Hampton Beach - Hampton
One of the most popular tourist beaches in New Hampshire. There are tons of activities along the boardwalk including arcades, shopping, water sports, and golfing. 

Wellington State Beach - Bristol
Located just off Route 3A in Bristol, this beach has picnic tables and boat launches, perfect for spending a day at the beach. Visitors can swim, picnic, fish, or go hiking while visiting. 

Wallis Sands State Beach - Hampton
This beach has oceanfront swimming and views of the Isles of Shoals. There is a store that sells a variety of food and drinks and a bathhouse complete with hot and cold showers. 

Maine:

Old Orchard Beach - Old Orchard
The beach is located along the pier and is complete with rides, snacks, and great live music. There is also great nightlife for those who want to spend the whole day. 

Ogunquit Beach - Ogunquit
This beach is known for its beauty. There is also a vibrant art community, quality restaurants, lots of shopping, and the Ogunquit playhouse is nearby in case you're in the mood for a show.

Popham Beach - Phippsburg
Known for it's great lighthouse views and family-friendly atmosphere, Popham Beach is also perfect for walking and collecting sea shells. Beach-goers may also see horse riders, surfers, and swimmers. During low tide, you can walk the sand bar to a nearby island too.

Scarborough Beach - Scarborough
This family-friendly beach located close to Portland has numerous food trucks parked right inside the state park.

Sand Beach Acadia National Park - Bar Harbor
The beach is nestled in a protected area on the rocky coast and is complete with gorgeous views.

Vermont:

Sand Bar State Park - Milton
Visitors to the Sand Bar State Park can rent canoes or kayaks, go swimming in the ocean, and end the day with a barbeque in the picnic area. 

Branbury State Park - Brandon
This beach is great for those who are adventurous because of its hiking trails that take hikers to gorgeous viewers of waterfalls, caves, mountain lakes, and streams. There are also places to rent kayaks, rowboats, and pedal boats. 

North Beach - Burlington
North Beach is located right in Burlington and is complete with bike rentals, boat rentals, a playground, and concession stand. 

Connecticut:

Calf Pasture Beach - Norwalk
This beach is perfect for the athletic bunch. Visitors can play baseball or softball, volleyball, basketball, go skating, visit the playground, or learn to sail. There are also concerts and car shows throughout the season, as well as a concession stand for when you need a snack. 

Silver Sands State Park - Milford
This beach is great for swimming and fishing and also includes a boardwalk that will take you right onto the beach.

Ocean Beach Park -New London
This beach has tons of activities and events throughout the season including beach blanket movie night, a magic show, numerous concerts, and a live DJ.
