The New Hampshire Fish and Game Department is warning people to be wary of thin ice after several rescues over the past few days.
One man had to be rescued after falling through ice on a pond in Hollis Saturday. Authorities say he was in the water for 15 minutes, but he is expected to survive.
Fish and Game Office Levi Frye says 4 to 6 inches of blue or black ice is safe for walking on, and 8 to 10 inches of ice is safe for off-road vehicles.
He says people who fall through can help themselves by laying flat and kicking themselves back on the ice.
People who are trying to help someone who fell through should crawl to them for safety.
