Report: Man Charged With Attempted Murder of Wife of 61 Years

An 84-year-old Massachusetts man has reportedly been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly tried to suffocate his ailing wife.

According to Newburyport News, Frank Pavuk is accused of putting a plastic bag over his wife's head, then trying to smother her with a pillow, at their Newburyport home Monday morning.

Pavuk reportedly told police his wife, to whom he has been married for 61 years, suffers from dementia. According to the report, Pavuk told officers "constant arguments and verbal quarrels led to the incident this morning," adding that he believed the woman's death would "save a lot of trouble for everybody."

The newspaper also stated that Pavuk allegedly told a responding officer, "Everything's OK, I just tried to kill my wife."

Pavuk was ordered to be held without bail after being arraigned, and a restraining order reportedly requires Pavuk to stay at least 50 yards away from her and her home for at least a year.

The victim was treated and released from Anna Jaques Hospital.
