A Massachusetts man accused of raping a woman and setting her home on fire was held without bail at his arraignment Thursday.
Michael Comeau, 54, of Lynn, is facing charges including attempted murder, aggravated rape, assault to commit a felony and breaking and entering, according to the Essex County district attorney’s office.
Police responded to a report of a sexual assault and possible arson at 47 Glenwood Rd. around 8:20 Wednesday night.
Officers were flagged down by a neighbor, who called 911, who said a woman who was naked and bleeding from her head and face came to her door. That woman said Comeau was trying to kill her and set her house on fire, officials said in court.
Comeau was found inside the home by firefighters. The fire, which was contained in the basement, was quickly put out.
The victim, 49, was taken to a Boston hospital for treatment.
Comeau was arraigned Monday on assault and battery charges after violating a judge’s order to stay away from the victim. Officials moved to revoke his bail on Tuesday, but a judge issued a restraining order and released Comeau.

Police were called to the home two times the next day for reports that Comeau had violated the restraining order. Both times, they were unable to find him and issued warrants for his arrest.
At his arraignment, the judge also revoked bail on his two open cases.
Comeau will appear in court again on Dec. 11 for a dangerousness hearing.
