North End Restaurants Lash Out Against Olive Garden Food Truck

Boston is the second stop of the food truck's 20-city summer tour

If you love Italian food, you already know the North End in Boston is where it's at.

But, there's a new visitor in town for the weekend, and not everyone is happy about it.

Olive Garden's Breadstick Nation food truck arrived in Faneuil Hall on Thursday to hand-out free samples of their much-anticipated Signature Breadstick Sandwiches.

The truck will be at Faneuil Hall again Friday, June 12 and Sunday, June 14 from noon to 5 p.m.

The vehicle will roll into Boston's North End Park, at the corner of Surface Rd. and Hanover St., on Saturday, June 13 from noon until 5 p.m. And, it's this stop that's seemingly turning up the heat.

"There is nothing authentically Italian about Olive Garden," George Mendoza, one of the owners of Monica's in the North End, tells Boston.com. "It's an insult to everyone in the North End selling Italian food for more than 100 years."

"Damien DiPaola, who owns Carmelina's and Vito's in the North End, tells Boston.com, "It's just a publicity stunt to say they came to the North End."

If you can get to Boston this weekend, you be the judge.
