Man Stabbed in Road Rage Incident in Norton, Massachusetts

A man suffered serious injuries when he was stabbed following a road rage incident Thursday afternoon in Norton, Massachusetts.

A man called 911 around 3:30 p.m. to report that he had been stabbed after a confrontation on Plain Street in Norton. He said that he and another man were involved in a road rage incident that began in Easton, and the victim drove to Boutas Drive in Norton.

"He waved over to get help, and I guess the guy went over to the window and said 'I've been stabbed," recalled Bruce McMullin, who lives on the dead-end street.

When officers arrived, they determined that the caller, a 25-year-old man had been stabbed in the chest.

The victim was taken to Rhode Island Hospital.

The suspect, identified as 49-year-old Alfred Pond, was found later at his Attleboro home and taken into custody. The knife used in the attack was found on Pine Street in Norton, about half a mile from the scene of the stabbing.

"Everything has gotten so out of hand these days," said Norton resident June Easingwood. "Nobody can seem to handle anything. The answer is to shoot him or stab him. I just think it's so godawful in this day and age."

Pond is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. He is due in Attleboro District Court Friday. It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney.

The incident remains under investigation.
