Officer-Involved Shooting Under Investigation in Auburn, Massachusetts

State police said no officers were injured

Massachusetts State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in a gas station parking lot and near a mall and high school.

The shooting occurred on Swanson Road in Auburn late Wednesday morning.

Police said the shooting scene has been secured, there is no suspect search underway and there are no known injuries to any officers. They did not say whether anyone else was hurt.

"Thankful our @AuburnMAPolice Officers are safe," Auburn Fire and Rescue said on Twitter.

The incident was recorded by witness Dean Ghanoum on his cell phone. Ghanoum said police unloaded several shots at a man inside a red pickup truck.

"All I heard was the cop yelling, 'drop your gun, drop your gun,'" Ghanoum recalled.

After the first wave of shots, officers could be heard yelling another order to the man before another shot was fired.

The condition and identity of the man is not known.

Police said they had been looking for the pickup truck in New Hampshire when an officer in Auburn spotted it in the parking lot.

Authorities said the man showed a gun to an officer but it's still unclear how many officers were involved in firing their weapons.

State police closed the ramp from Interstate 290 to Swanson Road for a time as they conducted their investigation.

The site is not far from the Auburn Mall and Auburn High School.

The incident remains under investigation.
