6 Hospitalized in Roxbury Shooting

Six people were shot in Boston's Roxbury neighborhood, authorities have confirmed.

Boston Police responded to a report of a person shot on Maple Street. According to Commissioner William Gross, three men and three women were found suffering from gunshot wounds.

"People were just attending a gathering when an unknown suspect, or suspects, opened fire," Gross told reporters around 1 a.m. Saturday.

All of the victims were hospitalized with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

"This is a weekend where we should be celebrating," said Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins. "It is tragic that we've had six victims shot today."

Roxbury resident Marie Rudolph, who has been living in the neighborhood for nearly 15 years, says violence is starting to overrun the community again.

“This community was was taken over by drugs and they cleaned it up. Now it seems to be coming back,” said Rudolph.

Police say the victims range in ages from their mid-20s to mid-30s.

Gross said police were looking for witnesses. Anyone with information is asked to call 1-800-494-TIPS.
