Officials Investigating 5-Year-Old Boy's Death

Massachusetts officials are investigating after a child died early Saturday morning.

According to the Essex County District Attorney, Lawrence police received a 911 call reporting an unresponsive five-year-old boy at an apartment on Bowdoin Street in Lawrence. The boy was attending a family gathering with several adults and other children.

The child was transported to Lawrence General Hospital where he was pronounced dead, officials said. The child's name has not been released.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Officials say that the initial investigation suggests there was no foul play. The child had a prior medical condition that may have been a factor in his death.

The matter remains under investigation by Essex District Attorney's Office, the Essex State Police Detective Unit and the Lawrence Police.
