Officials: School Employee Stole $110K, Bought Cocaine

Mass. prosecutors say Robert Walmsley stole money from Framingham State University to fund his drug use

Massachusetts prosecutors say a former Framingham State University employee stole more than $110,000 from the school and used most of the money to buy cocaine.

Thirty-four-year-old Robert Walmsley of Brockton was arrested Tuesday and charged with three counts of larceny over $250 and making a fraudulent claim to an employer.

Attorney General Martha Coakley said the state alleges Walmsley stole the money to fund his drug use.

Walmsley graduated from Framingham State and worked in the school's Office of Development and Alumni Relations from 2008 until his termination last June.

According to prosecutors, Walmsley stole the money between 2011 and the month before he was fired using a procurement card issued by the school. They say he bought hundreds of prepaid Visa gift cards and claimed that they were bought for work-authorized purposes.
