The Patriots have suspended defensive lineman Michael Bennett for one week for conduct detrimental to the team, according to the NFL Network.

The news was first reported by the NFL Network's Mike Giardi.

Bennett told ESPN that the suspension was the result of a "philosophical disagreement" with his position coach and apologized to his teammates "for any distraction this may have caused.

NBC Sports Boston's Phil Perry reported that the disagreement involved Bret Bielema, the Patriots' defensive line coach, and took place on Friday, the day after Bennett barely played in the team's win over the New York Giants.

Bennett was not in attendance at Tuesday's practice.

The 33-year-old has four tackles and 2-1/2 sacks so far this season and is scheduled to make $7.2 million. He had nine sacks and 25 tackles last season.

Bennett won a Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks in 2013.
