Patriots Pick Up Special Teams Star Matthew Slater's 2019 Option

The New England Patriots are bringing back an important player for next season after picking up special teams captain Matthew Slater's 2019 option.

ESPN's Field Yates also noted Slater will earn a roster bonus.

Slater has spent all of his 11 pro seasons with the Patriots after they selected him in the fifth round (153rd overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft.

He is one of the NFL's best special teams players and has seven Pro Bowl nods, four NFL first team All-Pro selections and one second team All-Pro honor. The 33-year-old veteran also was among New England's best players in its Super Bowl LIII win over the Los Angeles Rams last month.
