Devin McCourty surprised many people on Super Bowl Opening Night when he didn't dismiss the possibility of retiring after Super Bowl LIII, but the New England Patriots safety has no plans to step away from the NFL just yet.
"I'm gonna play," McCourty told the Sports Spectrum podcast on Thursday.
A little time away from the game reminded McCourty that he still loves playing.
"I think once you get a chance to step away for a couple weeks now, you're like, ‘Yeah, man, I still do want to be around these other young guys that come in,'" McCourty said.
The veteran safety has won three Super Bowl championships (in five total appearances) with the Patriots since the team drafted him out of Rutgers in 2010. The latest triumph came earlier this month when the Pats defeated the Los Angeles Rams 13-3 in Super Bowl LIII in Atlanta. McCourty also has been named to two Pro Bowls and three All-Pro second teams in his career.

The next major announcement for the Patriots' future could come from tight end Rob Gronkowski, who has yet to publicly reveal if he's returning for the 2019 campaign or retiring. His agent said a few days ago a decision could come in the next couple of weeks.
