Peet's Coffee & Tea in Beacon Hill Closed by the City of Boston; Exact Status Unknown

by Marc Hurwitz

A California-based coffee roaster and retailer that is closing two of its Boston area locations today has seen a third shut down--at least for now--and it is not yet known what will happen to the place.

According to three sources, including a poster on Twitter, Peet's Coffee & Tea in the Beacon Hill neighborhood of Boston is shuttered, with all three sending pictures of a sign out front that says "Closed by order of Licensing Board for the City of Boston." This sign was also posted yesterday and while a phone call placed to the Charles Street spot yesterday indicated that the shop would be open today, phone calls have gone unanswered this afternoon. As soon as we find out more about the exact status of the Beacon Hill location of Peet's, we will post an update here.

Today also marked the final day for two other locations of Peet's--one in the North End and another in Newton Centre. It appears that other shops in Brookline, Cambridge, Chestnut Hill, Lexington, and Wellesley will remain in operation, though if this changes, we will also post an update on that.

The address for Peet's in Beacon Hill is 66 Charles Street, Boston, MA, 02114. The website for Peet's can be found at http://www.peets.com/
