Skeletal Human Remains Discovered Near Wareham Shopping Plaza

Human remains in a wooded area near a shopping plaza in Wareham, Massachusetts, were discovered Monday afternoon, according to state police assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney's office.

Wareham police responded to an area near Cranberry Plaza Monday around noon after they said possible human remains were discovered by a person looking for a lost item.

According to a preliminary investigation, the bones appear to be that of a man and there were no indications of foul play, the district attorney's office said.

It was unclear how long the body had been there. Police said the body was concealed by the heavy vegetation.

"There's a couple missing people right now — one from the Cape and another area — so we are looking into that but there's no connection right now," Wareham Police Chief John Walcek said.

The investigation is ongoing.
