A Whitman, Massachusetts school teacher is being investigated for allegedly having inappropriate contact with a student.

Whitman police said they were notified on Wednesday of alleged inappropriate contact between a teacher and a student at Duval Elementary School. They said the teacher was immediately placed on paid administrative leave.

An investigation is ongoing and no charges have been filed.

Jeffrey Szymaniak, superintendent of the Whitman-Hanson school district, issued a statement saying that Duval Elementary School Principal Darlene Foley was informed of "an allegation of misconduct" by a staff member on Wednesday, and immediately contacted central office administration and the school resource officer.

"A positive learning environment and the safety of all members of our school community are a priority in the Whitman-Hanson Regional School District," Szymaniak said. "The District appreciates its strong working relationship with both the Whitman and Hanson Public Safety departments to ensure the well-being of our community."
