Police Search for Vehicle in Connection to Shooting of 7-Year-Old Child

Boston Police are asking for the public's assistance in locating the shooter

Tips have been extremely limited coming in and police want to speak with people in a white car who were seen in the Boston's Dorchester neighborhood on Sunday.

The best part of the story is that 7-year-old Divan Silva, of Brockton, is recovering from a gunshot wound, when he was caught in the crossfire Sunday in Dorchester.

"It's right there, his grandmother's house. It's daylight, kids playing. You never know," his mother Dijanira DeAndrade said.

But the story is not over. For it to have the ending police are hoping for, the public needs to help.

Two photos of the suspect's car are what police want the public to take a close look at. A white Ford Fusion sedan, with a moon roof and rear spoiler, was seen in the Bowdoin Street neighborhood following the shooting.

"My goal is to get to zero homicides. My goal is to get shootings and everything down," said Mayor Marty Walsh.

On Thursday night, a plan of action was put forth at a community meeting. City and state leaders, with Divan's family in attendance, all met with the goal to find opportunities for young people so they don't make choices that lead to gun violence.

"We can't do it alone. We need your help. We had a seven-year-old boy get shot, we need people to step up to the plate," said Commissioner William Evans.

But for the family of Divan, an uneasiness remains, while the suspect is at large.

"I feel very happy with everything that happened, that he's ok, that it wasn't worse. But in my heart, I still don't feel in peace," DeAndrade said.

Police are taking to social media in their pleas. Commissioner Evans tweeted the following: “We're working 'round the clock to solve this case but we need help. If you have info, share it. Holding back helps nobody.”

Evans also said they have only one or two tips, so far.
