One person is in custody after a group of suspects fled the scene of a drug investigation in a Massachusetts condominium complex Friday morning that yielded more than 1,000 grams of fentanyl.
Stephan Pena, 23, of Foxborough faces multiple charges, including assault and battery on a police officer, trafficking a Class B substance to wit Fentanyl, possession with intent to distribute a Class B substance to wit Fentanyl and resisting arrest.
He was held on $100,000 bail and was ordered to surrender his passport at his arraignment Friday. A not guilty plea was entered on his behalf.
Foxborough police say they responded to the Lodge at Foxborough on Foxborough Boulevard shortly after 2:20 a.m. for a report of a disturbance at unit 2208.
Responding officers said they spoke with Stephan Pena, who lives in the apartment. Pena attempted to close the apartment door on police, pushed an officer and resisted arrest, attempting to flee upstairs.
Police said they heard other people on the second floor moving around, but could not find them. It was determined the other people jumped off a second-floor balcony. It's unclear how many people fled or if there are descriptions of the suspects.
Officers found a powdery substance on the second floor believed to be fentanyl. They also found baggies containing what they believed to be fentanyl on the ground under the second-floor balcony.
One resident of the complex, who did not wish to be named, told NBC Boston she kept hearing screaming in the apartment.
"When the cops showed up they didn't want to let the cops in the door and while he was arguing with police at the door trying to get in, somebody jumped out the patio on the second floor and threw a basket full of drugs, like a pound of drugs," she said.

"I think there was a woman and a man that ran," she added. "There were three men in the apartment and they arrested one or two. They definitely arrested one they had to take him to the ground he wouldn't let them in the house."
The DEA responded to the scene and said the initial estimate of fentanyl seized was over 1,000 grams.
