Bridge Reopened After Protest

A bridge was reopened after being shut down briefly Friday afternoon in Chelsea, Massachusetts, due to the presence of protesters.

Police told Chelsea Fire that the Meridian Street Bridge was closed.

According to officials, more protesters showed up than were expected.

May 1 is International Workers' Day. The Boston May Day Committee had planned an event in which participants were scheduled to gather at Chelsea City Hall at 4 p.m.

The committee's website featured a graphic reading "May Day Means Solidarity," inviting people to join and advocate other rights.

One sign read "Mass Action Against Police Brutality."
