RI Attorney General Warns About Recent Scam Phone Calls

Rhode Island's attorney general is warning residents about recent scam phone calls that mimic his office's phone number on the caller identification.

Attorney General Peter Neronha says the scammers are targeting elderly residents.

Neronha's office has issued warnings about the so-called "grandparent scam'' in the past, which involves the caller posing as a grandchild or relative in urgent need of money.

Neronha says he was recently notified that many of these calls are using caller ID spoofing to display the phone number of the attorney general's office.
